Ron Paul "Disappears" Evidence of KKK Coordinator

Thu Jan 17, 2008 at 01:11:27 PM PDT

For the past couple of days I've been following the case of Randy Gray, the Midland County, Michigan coordinator for the Ron Paul campaign who is also a longstanding active and vocal organizer for the Knight's Party faction of the Ku Klux Klan. I called the campaign's press office on Tuesday and again yesterday, asking if they were aware of the situation and if they would like to release a statement. Both times the spokesman I talked to said he'd look into it and get back to me. I never received a call back.

Today, at last, we know what the Paul campaign's response is: they don't have one.

Yesterday, I linked to a list of Michigan county contacts on the official site of the Ron Paul campaign at http://people.ronpaul2008.com/.... Today, that page is gone, with no indication that it was ever there in the first place. The list of county coordinators at michigan4ronpaul.com, which claims to be an independent site not affiliated with the official campaign, remains online, but Midland County has mysteriously disappeared from its former location between Menominee and Missaukee counties. (You can see Google's cached version of the latter page here; I've also preserved copies of both that cached page and the page from ronpaul2008.com. For good measure, here's Google's cached version of Gray's profile page at the Michigan site.)

So it seems that Ron Paul is not particularly eager to be associated with the guy who delivered this harangue at a white power rally last June, which is good to see. Still, that Gray's sudden disappearance from the campaign came without any statement to me or to anyone else is a little curious. For more information we turn, a bit surprisingly perhaps, to Adam De Angeli, field coordinator for the Ron Paul campaign and webmaster of michigan4ronpaul.com, who posts as "a2planet2" at ronpaulforums.com. De Angeli, who appears not to understand how a coverup is supposed to work, writes:

As the Michigan web guy I deleted all of Gray's stuff from our site, and readied a full explanation, containing the obvious (how were we supposed to know; we don't dig through every supporter's record) and the retaliatory (obviously this is a political sting) response. But the campaign said "no response" which I guess makes sense. No feeding trolls.

(Emphasis mine.) De Angeli goes on to explain how Gray had been appointed a county coordinator by a previous Michigan state coordinator who was subsequently fired for apparently unrelated reasons, and emphasizes that Gray never gave any indication at michigan4ronpaul.com as to his double life as a KKK organizer (which appears to be true, from what I can tell). And it's worth reiterating that there's no indication that anyone at the national or Michigan campaigns were familiar with Gray's affiliations; nor is it reasonable, as De Angeli states, to expect that the campaign perform background checks on every volunteer coordinator for each of 83 counties. And if we were talking about any other candidate, it would probably be appropriate to end the matter at that.

But we are not talking about just another candidate. This is a candidate who has longstanding ties to the radical right wing; who refused to return a donation from a well-known white supremacist; who for years published sickening racist articles purporting to be written by him, in his personal newsletter, under his name. And who, lest we forget, is hugely, almost unimaginably popular at the single largest online gathering point for white supremacists and neo-Nazis worldwide. Given all this, it's more than reasonable to suppose that there may yet be other avowed white supremacists in official positions with the Paul campaign around the country. With the Randy Gray matter, Ron Paul had an opportunity to stand up and state forcefully for the record that racists have no place in his campaign. Instead, he has chosen to sweep the matter under the rug.

We are left to wonder what the real problem with Gray was: that he's a vicious white supremacist, or that he got caught.

When racist radio show host Hal Turner hosts his so-called "rally" in Kalamazoo on August 4, joining him on the list of speakers will be Midland County resident Randy Gray. Gray, on whom the Southern Poverty Law Center said it had no information in a recent article in Between the Lines, is a Ku Klux Klan organizer with the Knight's Party.

This is still a local story from my area, but it should and will undoubtedly go national soon.  Hal Turner, North Jersey's most prominent Neo-Nazi, "radio host," racist troublemaker, and regular contributor to the Sean Hannity show has been outed - he's accused of being a front man for the FBI.

                1.  No federal protections for abortion.

                1. End social security.

Personally, this is obscene.  I was raised on SS death benefits from my Mother for 12 years.

                http://www.ontheissues.org/...

                1. He wants to abolish the Fed. Dept. of Ed.

They aren't my favorite part of the govt, but the money from the Fed is almost always in support of children in poverty.  That's why a small percentage of the budgets comes from the federal govt.

His stance on gay marriage.  He's only into federal interference when it deals with homosexuals- then, it's important to make a federal ban on marriage.

If I were in Congress in 1996, I would have voted for the Defense of Marriage Act, which used Congress’s constitutional authority to define what official state documents other states have to recognize under the Full Faith and Credit Clause, to ensure that no state would be forced to recognize a "same sex" marriage license issued in another state.

                http://www.house.gov/...

Finally, why would your rather hold onto the idea that Lew Rockwell wrote the newsletter that was written under the name of Ron Paul?  You must see that it's just a way to convince yourself that he doesn't endorse those ideas.  It's really a mental excuse for you, and apparently, you'll go with it until you see him lynch someone.  Especially given that the newsletter was written for more than a decade.  Don't you think that if RP disagreed with the sentiments in the newsletter, he would have sued someone?  If he doesn't believe those things, then he should bring suit against the real author.  It must be some sort of libel.

So, I don't really care who you vote for.  If you think you're anywhere near liberal, you shouldn't consider voting for him.

You said that Social Security will be "gone" under Paul.  You said access to Abortion will be "gone" under Paul.

You haven't proven anything.  Paul believes abortion is a state issue, and not a federal issue.  He's also not very fond of abortion.

He will be president, not dictator, it will take a vote from Congress, or a decision by the Supreme Court, not a declaration from the president to make this happen.

Social Security is the same issue.  Because he believes one thing, doesn't mean that he can declare it to be.

Although there is ONE thing PAUL will be able to do that the DEMOCRATS haven't been able to do.  The Democrats that we voted in to end this war, continue to vote to FUND it.  PAUL as Commander in Chief can BRING THE TROOPS home NOW.

Don't need a vote for that.

The top three DEMS in a debate said they couldn't guarantee us being out of Iraq before 2013.  Paul said immediately.  That's one thing a president can do, without congressional approval.

On October 15, 2007, Paul introduced the American Freedom Agenda Act of 2007, which would "bar the use of evidence obtained through torture; require that federal intelligence gathering is conducted in accordance with the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA); create a mechanism for challenging presidential signing statements; repeal the Military Commissions Act, which, among other things, denies habeas corpus to certain detainees; prohibit kidnapping, detentions, and torture abroad; protect journalists who publish information received from the executive branch; and ensure that secret evidence is not used to designate individuals or organizations with a presence in the U.S. as foreign terrorists.

Harry Reid wants a new FISA law with telecom immunity.

As one of six Republicans to vote against the Iraq War Resolution, Paul inspired the founding of a group called the National Peace Lobby Project to promote a resolution he and Oregon representative Peter DeFazio sponsored to repeal the war authorization in February 2003. His speech, 35 "Questions That Won't Be Asked About Iraq,"[73] was translated and published in German, French, Russian, Italian, and Swiss periodicals before the Iraq War began.

Soon we hope to have hearings on the pending war with Iraq. I am concerned there are some questions that won’t be asked- and maybe will not even be allowed to be asked.  Here are some questions I would like answered by those who are urging us to start this war.

                  1. Is it not true that the reason we did not bomb the Soviet Union at the height of the Cold War was because we knew they could retaliate?
                  1. Is it not also true that we are willing to bomb Iraq now because we know it cannot retaliate- which just confirms that there is no real threat?
                  1. Is it not true that those who argue that even with inspections we cannot be sure that Hussein might be hiding weapons, at the same time imply that we can be more sure that weapons exist in the absence of inspections?
                  1. Is it not true that the UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency was able to complete its yearly verification mission to Iraq just this year with Iraqi cooperation?
                  1. Is it not true that the intelligence community has been unable to develop a case tying Iraq to global terrorism at all, much less the attacks on the United States last year? Does anyone remember that 15 of the 19 hijackers came from Saudi Arabia and that none came from Iraq?

Returning donations is pandering. I don't think a politician should be judged by the beliefs of their supporters, because if that candidate has strong principals, you can count on their own beliefs guiding their actions. Besides, I'm sure that not only Paul, but Clinton, Obama, Edwards, and EVERYBODY ELSE has "nut jobs" contributing to their campaigns, if you look hard enough.

Maybe we should start compiling a list of unacceptable groups to accept money from. White supremacists, pedophiles, rapists, fine. How about arms dealers, oil company executives, people who don't pay their parking tickets? Where do we draw the line?

I grew up just outside of Midland, and have known lots of people there, and while it is a bit whitebread, it's also a nice town that supports the arts and tries to give the Tri-Cities area a good name. I'm surprised this guy is in Midland, actually.

Please, don't judge our fair state by this scumbag or his extracurricular activities. He's a rarity in Michigan. We might have racists, like everywhere else, but you aren't going to see many Klan rallies in any populated areas of the state.

It would be highly unadvisable for Klansmen to show up within 20 miles of Detroit, Lansing (birthplace of Malcolm X), or Muskegon, and it's kind of weird that a Klan member lives so close to Saginaw and Flint.

Finally, Ron Paul is a nut. I really don't understand how any liberals can be brainwashed into following him. They might as well be following a Ronald Reagan/Art Bell ticket.
